Title Low Cost Low Power Marine Buoy Release
Abstract Oceanographic instruments are typically deployed for many days, weeks and months. Surface buoys subject expensive instrumentation to loss by inquisitive boaters and boat strikes. GPS location can become invalid overtime due to current drift. This low cost, lower power release system can be programmed either days, weeks, or months depending on firmware setup. Because of the low power timer requirements a small set of batteries supply enough electrolytic power to dissolve a stainless steel wire a release the buoy. A FET is utilized as low power switch instead power hungry relays.Because the processor returns to low power after releasing the buoy, this system can be redeployed without replacing or recharging the battery in many cases.
